Why do you play u6 & u8 like that? We
play on two fields so kids get more playing time. It is also harder to keep
score - we're only worried about how well they play at this stage. We have
no goalkeepers because kids' feet and hands develop much later than other body
parts. If a player catches a ball with his nose, he might quit. If players
score lots of goals, everyone is happy.
We have no throw-ins because
kids cannot handle balls out of the air well, and most often cringe in fear. What
equipment does my player need? Players should have a water
bottle for training and for matches Players are not required to have
cleats, but if they do, do not get softball or baseball cleats that are square
on the bottom, and do not get screw-in metal cleats. Players MUST have
shin guards. The shin guards should go on first, and then the long socks should
cover the shin guards. Players are not allowed to scrimmage at training if they
do not wear shin guards. A ball is not required, but it is helpful.
U6 uses a size 3 ball. U8, U10 and U12 use a size 4 ball. U14 and up use a size
5 ball. When and where are evaluations?
For each year, there is one tryout date in the fall. Rec teams will stay
together in the spring. For 2009 the tryouts will be held at Dan Daniels
park. U6 & u8 do not have to tryout Why
are there evaluations? We would like for the competition
to be fair It lets the kids meet new people and learn from different
coaches. Does my player have to go to tryouts if
all the coaches know her? Players should attend at least
one tryout session. If a player does not attend, at the draft, that
player's name will be on a card and turned face down on a table to be chosen at
random. When is the player draft, and how does
it work? Most often it is the Saturday after the week of
tryouts U6 & u8 coaches look at player requests and make attempts
to balance the teams in regards to age & gender All other coaches
draw a number to determine the order of draft picks. Draft procedure
is as follows: more Can
my player play up an age group? Most of the time - no. We
want kids to be stars in the age appropriate age group - thrive, not just survive Players
wishing to play up must attend two nights of tryouts. The first night
should be the age appropriate group, and the player must be evaluated in the highest
bracket of that age group. The second night would be in the next age
group up. The player must rate in the top two brackets of that age group to be
able to play up. How much does it cost?
$35 if fee paid on time
What should
my u10 player be able to do? Go to the player development
